Swiss Chocolate - Switzerland
Swiss chocolate is internationally recognized for its excellent quality. The high content of superb cocoa butter, which gives chocolate its smooth, creamy, texture and the high standards of manufacturing make Swiss chocolate a sought after commodity worldwide. Chocolate is consumed all year round but there are peak seasons for chocolate including Chocolate Flowers in Spring, Chocolate Bunnies made at Easter and Chocolates Chestnuts and Mushrooms in Autumn. Winter brings Christmas and a whole bagful of Christmas goodies made of the best Swiss chocolate. Each region of Switzerland has its own specialties. In the Jura Mountains region, people who make chocolate (known as chocolatiers) make little chocolate watches while Bern specializes in chocolate bears.
The most renowned names in chocolate production are Nestle, which is the largest chocolate manufacturing company in Switzerland. Lindt is another internationally known name with its chococalte and bakery stores called Sprungli across Switzerland. Suchard is another known brand of Swiss chocolates. There are many smaller exclusive chocolate manufacturers in Switzerland, with stores across the major Swiss cities.
